2021 Annual Report Released: The Latest Chapter in ICF’s Work on Behalf of Iraqi Children

February 15, 2022, Washington, DC – The Iraqi Children Foundation today released its 2021 Annual Report, showcasing an exciting new chapter in its tireless and ongoing work for Iraq’s voiceless orphans and most vulnerable children.

“There is so much good news in this report,” said ICF’s Chairman Grant Felgenhauer.  “ICF continues to deliver education, legal protection, nutrition, and a variety of psychosocial services for children in Baghdad and beyond.  Too many boys and girls are out of school, on the streets, working as child laborers, and exploited by criminals and traffickers who target them for prostitution, labor, and the sale of human organs. We target our core investments not at one-time handouts, but in substantive interventions.”

“These are investments that redirect children’s lives toward hope.”

Illustrated by lots of pictures and stories of children, the report features some key achievements from 2021:

  •  ICF had its biggest year of program spending ever in 2021, with on-the-ground programs for orphans and vulnerable children in Iraq, with on-the-ground programs in Iraq representing 85.6% of our total spend during the year.

  •  ICF continued to support existing projects in Baghdad while also expanding new projects in Mosul and Sinjar where ICF is increasing its operations.

  • ICF celebrated five years of the Street Lawyers program, four years of Hope Buses, and a successful one-year pilot of our new Anti-Trafficking program.

  • ICF, The Children’s Village of New York, and four Iraqi partners, published a new edition of "My Life Book," an activity book designed with a simple therapeutic goal of addressing the deep need for belonging in children who have experienced trauma and loss.

  • ICF launched a new "School Transitions" program, providing ongoing care, support, and monitoring for Hope Bus graduates in an effort to sustain the progress these children have made.

Building on the successes of 2021, ICF’s plans to spend more than $400,000 directly on these projects in 2022.  These funds will have a significant and immediate positive impact on the children ICF seeks to serve.

In addition to highlighting care and services for Iraqi children, the report also features inspirational and generous support for these children from corporations, veterans, families, students, and many others who believe in this cause and are committed to being a voice for voiceless children in harm’s way.
